Why Your Content Gets Likes and Your Pipeline Stays Empty

Hello Fellow Ronins,

What if the reason your content gets likes but not invoices is that you keep talking about problems, and problems don’t write checks?

Pain points do.

Most operators confuse the two. They post about problems because problems are visible. They talk about features because features are easy to list. Then they wonder why the inbox is quiet and the pipeline feels random.

Pain is different. Pain is what people will spend money to stop. If you build around pain before the crisis arrives, you stop competing for last-minute emergencies and start owning the conversation that leads to the sale.

People Buy When It Hurts

Most people wait until they are already in pain to buy anything. That is not a theory. It is how humans allocate attention and cash.

Your back has to actually hurt before you book the chiropractor. Your website has to actually break before you call a developer. Your pipeline has to actually go dry before you call a revenue consultant.

Until that point, the β€œproblem” is theoretical. It lives in a to-do list, a Slack thread, or a late-night worry that never becomes a purchase. The moment it becomes pain missed payroll, a stalled quarter, a founder who cannot explain why last month’s spend produced nothing buying behavior changes. Suddenly there is budget. Suddenly there is urgency. Suddenly the same offer that was ignored last quarter looks obvious.

If your marketing only shows up at the emergency, you are positioning as a last resort. Last-resort vendors get price-shopped, delayed, and replaced the second the fire is out. The businesses that win long-term do not wait for the crisis. They position around the pain before it fully arrives. They teach ongoing alignment instead of only showing up for the emergency adjustment.

Problems vs. Pain Points

A problem is an observation. A pain point is a cost.

β€œI should probably tighten our follow-up process” is a problem. β€œWe spent $12,000 on leads last quarter and cannot tell you what closed” is a pain point. One gets a nod. The other gets a calendar invite.

Attention is cheap. Likes, views, and β€œgreat post” comments are attention. Revenue comes from naming the specific cost of inaction in language the buyer already uses internally with their partners, their board, or themselves at 11 p.m.

- A problem sounds like: β€œLead generation is important.”

- A pain point sounds like: β€œYou cannot name your cost-to-close, so you keep buying more traffic to feed a leak you have not measured.”

- A problem is β€œwe need more visibility.” A pain point is β€œvisibility without architecture is just a more expensive stall.”

When you write, sell, and design offers around the second category, you stop begging for attention and start matching people who already feel the cost.

The 97/3 Rule

This ties directly into a framework we teach constantly inside The Revenue Ronin: the 97/3 Rule.

At any given moment, only about 3% of your market is ready to buy right now. They have the pain, the budget, and the decision window. The other 97% are not lost causes. They are simply not there yet. Some are aware but not hurting. Some are hurting but not ready to admit it. Some need proof. Some need timing. Some need one more quarter of doing it the hard way.

Your marketing system has one job: capture the 3%, and nurture the 97% until they are ready to become the next 3%.

Most businesses only build for the 3%. They run ads aimed at β€œready to buy today.” They write posts that only convert if someone is already in crisis. They treat everyone else as noise. That is why revenue feels random instead of predictable. You feast when a buyer happens to be in pain the week you posted, and you starve when they are not.

A real system does both jobs at once:

1. Capture the 3%. Clear offer. Clear next step. Fast path from pain to conversation.

2. Educate the 97%. Teach the cost of delay. Show the architecture. Make the pain visible before it becomes a crisis.

3. Stay present until timing flips. When someone in the 97% becomes the 3%, you are already the name they trust not the stranger they Google in a panic.

Build Around Pain Before the Crisis

If you only market the emergency adjustment, you train the market to wait until it is urgent. Then you compete with every other operator who also shows up when it is urgent.

Position earlier. Teach ongoing alignment. Show people what β€œhealthy” looks like in their pipeline, their cost-to-close, their follow-up, their offer structure β€” while they can still choose, not only while they are bleeding.

That is the chiropractor who talks about posture all year, not just the one who cracks a back after a weekend of moving boxes. Same skill. Different relationship. Different lifetime value.

What this looks like in practice:

- Offer: Sell the prevention and the rescue, but lead with the diagnosis. People pay for clarity on what the leak is costing them.

- Outreach: Do not open with β€œwe help companies grow.” Open with the specific stall they already recognize: spend without architecture, activity without a measured path to close.

- Content: Stop broadcasting problems. Name pain. Use numbers. Show the difference between noise and a system. Give them a next action they can take this week.

Your Move This Week

Find the real pain in your market before it becomes a crisis for your prospect. Build your offer, your outreach, and your content around that pain not just around visibility.

Ask one question until you can answer it without flinching: what does inaction actually cost them in the next 90 days? If you cannot name that cost, you are still talking about problems. Problems get attention. Pain points get you paid.

And if you do not like the word sales, reframe it. It is serving. You are just serving people who need what you have β€” including the ones who do not know they need it yet.
